It’s clean and green for MORE

“Some trash is recycled, some is thrown away, some ends up where it shouldn’t end up.” – Carlo Ratti

As part of their social responsibility, MORE Power employees promote the spirit of volunteerism in the annual clean-up drive of the Iloilo City Government. Called Guardians of the Environment, these 65 MORE Power volunteers took part in the coastal and city forest clean-up along the area in Brgy. Boulevard, Molo, one Saturday morning.

The clean and green program, part of this November’s National Environmental Awareness Month, was led by the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

“We would like to continue our commitment in serving our people in Iloilo not only being the distribution utility here but also sa mga ganitong klase ng project ng Iloilo City yung paglilinis ng environment. Maraming salamat po na nabigyan kami ng opportunity to be of help,” says Ma. Cristina D. Cabalhin, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs of MORE Power.

Fifty-nine sacks of trash were gathered by the volunteers. They mainly included various types of plastic, old shoes, and plastic bottles.

Moreover, Environmental Management Specialist Engr. Danilo Dinson of the CENRO also expressed his gratefulness to MORE Power as it foster the spirit of volunteerism, even if the coastal clean-up is far from its mandate as a distribution utility. “Daku gid katama una, awareness gid sang mga tawo nga taga diri nga Makita nila nga nagapaninlo kita kag mabulig man sila kag indi maghaboy sang basura sa shoreline,” he enthused.

The activity aims to raise awareness among Ilonggos on being responsible trash owners. Hopefully it will make everyone cognizant that plastic waste has become one of the main contributors to pollution in forests and the seas. Not only do pollution harm marine and land creatures, it causes damages to one’s health.
