Iloilo City and MORE Power Spearhead Mangrove Planting in Sunset Boulevard.

“If there are no mangroves, then the sea will have meaning. It’s like a tree with no roots, for the mangroves are the roots of the sea.”Mad-Ha Ranwasii, a Thai fisherman and village headsman

Recently, MORE Power, upholding its commitment to the community and the environment, led an initiative for its annual mangrove planting activity at the newly opened Sunset Boulevard.

120 volunteers, which included MORE Power employees and the company’s Guardians of the Environment, participated in planting 600 mangrove saplings. This initiative supports coastal protection and environmental sustainability.

Senior Environmental Management Specialist at City ENRO SUSAN JAVELLANA was profuse in her thanks to MORE Power for “being the first to plant mangroves at Sunset Boulevard since its opening.” She also emphasized the importance of maintaining the area’s cleanliness and proper waste disposal.

“Sa pagtanum sang mangrove makahatag siya sang protection sa diri nga lugar. Ma mitigate ya ang kainiton kag ang kadamu gid eh. Lantawa subong kalbo ang atun viewing deck. Kanami kay ang syudad sa subong gapangita sang more green spaces,” she said

Of the 22-mangrove species found in the Philippines, the volunteers planted Pagatpat in the Iloilo River.

MORE Power’s VP for Marketing and Corporate Affairs Ma. CRISTINA D. CABALHIN reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability. “Mangroves offer crucial benefits like coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and carbon sequestration,” she said. “This initiative aligns with our 5th-anniversary celebration to establish five planting decks, each with 1,000 saplings. Today, we completed our first deck with 600 saplings, and we are committed to reaching our target.”

In collaboration with Iloilo City’s Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), this effort reflects MORE Power’s dedication to sustainability and green initiatives, ensuring a greener future for Iloilo City.

As if not enough, MORE Power has more interesting environmental projects planned for the entire year to continue the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
