Not even their busy schedule, like attending to the needs of its customers, stopped MORE Power top management and employees from taking part in its annual fire drill. Even its customers joined in!
In cooperation with Bureau of Fire of the Philippines (BFP), the activity aimed to raise awareness on proper fire prevention and response. The power company’s own firefighting team and rescue team spearheaded the involvement of the employees. So, they can apply the tips even at home and on actual situation.
“So, ang fire drill daan dapat, aware ang tanan sang procceso kung paano kita maka conduct sang evacuation kag sa safety, para malikawan naton ang injury kag at the same time ang mga injured ta if ever may matabo gid man nga mahatagan kag matatapan sila as soon as possible,” says CHRIS IAN JADULOS, Community Relation Officer and designated Fire Chief of the fire drill.
According to the country’s fire bureau, the summer months are considered to have the highest fire incident rate. As they say, fire safety starts at home and at work as well.
“Bal an naton ang (tag-init) amo ang for the record sa taas gid ang fire call naton or insidente sang sunog…, that’s why nga March ang gin butang ang fire prevention month, kay tama ka init sang tyempo as we all know… maski gani subong ma bal an gid naton nga daw hindi kita ma gwa tunggod nga sa kainiton,” aqccording to SF02 JAKE ROALD SOLIS, Chief Fire Engine Company, Molo Fire Substation. “So ang amo lang gid nga ma panugyan ang fire safety start within ourselves man nanum.. so. kay bal an naton ang sunog ga umpisa man na siya sa negligence sa part naton as human… so. siguro amo na ang hambal nila ligtas ang may alam… amo lang na ang panugyan namon ang fire safety start with ourselves gid mismo.”
A week before the said fire drill, the company also took part in a fire fighting simulation drill with the Iloilo Fire Federation. Among the thing the employees were taught were how to extinguish fire, the proper way to use the fire extinguisher, how to be resourceful in times of emergencies, and how to prevent fire through fire safety checks.
“So nanging aware sila and may hands on experience sila sa pag gamit or pag execute sa ginatawag naton nga TPASS kung may fire extinguisher amo na ang TWIST the pin, PULL the pin, AIM the nozzle to the base of the fire, SQUEEZE the lever, and SWEEP side to side, so sa pamaagi nga na so amo na ang way or especially one way sa pagpatay sang kalayo,” says Engr. JETHON C. VILLARIAS, Pollution Control Officer and Safety officer of MORE Power.
According to MORE Power, “safety is the key to how they can serve their consumers every day.” This is even more useful during calamities, emergencies, not just in theory but in reality.
