A tripartite agreement for green energy in Iloilo City

“What we want is really to get solutions closer to the consumers and we are (very) grateful to Iloilo City for not just acting positively to our request, but more importantly acting so swiftly. I think that’s the example that that we want to set out to the rest and we hope that other LGUs are similarly inspired to act swiftly in partner with the national government so that we can bring the solutions closer to our people.” – ERC Chair/CEO Monalisa Dimalanta

The Energy Regulatory Commission signed an agreement with Iloilo City Government and MORE Power for the first ever Net metering services one-stop shop outside Luzon. The Tripartite Agreement was also signed to hasten the adoption of renewable energy in Iloilo. The commission, the city and the distribution utility were respectively represented by Chair/CEO MONALISA DIMALANTA, Mayor JERRY P. TREÑAS and President/CEO ROEL Z. CASTRO.

Under the agreement, ERC, Iloilo City and MORE Power will collaborate to convince residents and consumers to use renewable energy as a source of electricity, just like Distributed Energy Resources and Net-Metering Services.

According to Mayor JERRY P. TREÑAS, there are many offices and residences in Iloilo that use solar panels. “That’s why, with this agreement, more will be convinced to use renewable energy sources in their houses and offices because of the easy process,” he enthused. ERC will assign personnel in Iloilo City to fast track the process of application.

“And we hope with this partnership we will be able to encourage more people to go green… to avail of solar panels, solar lights etc. so that we can achieve the targets made by DOE and the national government so as far as Iloilo is concerned… the biggest High school, Iloilo City National High School, already has solar panels,” the Mayor said. “The Iloilo City Hall is already fitted out with solar panels for its dialysis center and for its I-CARE.” He assured everyone that the Iloilo City Government will support the program of the government and he is very happy that the ERC Chair came here in person to finalize this agreement between ERC, MORE POWER and the City Government.

For MORE Power, the agreement is a good opportunity for Ilonggo to be convinced to use renewable energy as a means to protect the environment.

“And I’m very happy to let the ERC Chair know that our collaboration actually with the city of having a one stop shop has been in actively working since three years ago,” said ROEL Z. CASTRO, President and CEO sang MORE Power. “We hosted the OBO, the city engineering in our office and having ERC now part of this one stop shop is a very welcome development and yes we will be part and we will be definitely be promoting and to make sure that we achieve the objectives of the national government as well as of the LGU of Iloilo City.”
