His 15-piece collection was masterfully done at the height of the pandemic, while the exhibit was curated by JOSE TENCE RUIZ. The art show was part of his own homecoming journey. Iloilo architectural and historical landmarks became his backgrounds as his juxtaposed the rich past with progressive present while looking forward to a bright future. With the pandemic and the variants of the virus, and landmarks as his inspiration, he paid paeans to the resiliency of a cross section of Ilonggo society – the rich and the powerful, the working class and the jobless, the poor and the ordinary, young and old – who were all affected by this world-wide health crisis. He captured all of these in his artworks, thus revealing the true condition of our society.

Multi-awarded (locally and internationally, he, for the past 48 years, has made his mark in the shaping, strengthening and development of Philippine art and culture not only in his hometown but also nationwide. Through his art, he exposed social realities and exchange ideas. He is known for his social commentary and promotion of that responsibility through subjects that depict relevant critiques.

According to Museum Director MARICEL MONTERO, “Iloilo Variants is an invitation to wander and walk through the commercial and industrial narrative that these structure represent, and extends to the premises outside the museum and up to the province.”
