CLI introduces a new immersive mountain resort in Balamban, Cebu

A new enclave is coming up in Balamban, Cebu. Called MagsPeak Mountain Resort and Villas, it is part of the growing leisure and hospitality portfolio of Cebu Landmasters Inc, (CLI), a leading developer in Visayas and Mindanao.

The 21-hectare mountain estate in Magsaysay Peak in Balamban, Cebu, which has an elevation of 800 meters, is a joint venture between CLI and MagsPeak Nature Park Inc. It is composed of Cebuano businessmen and fellow Caminoans, namely, Bob Gothong, Segundino Selma Jr., Richard Ray King, and Douglas Gacasan. MagsPeak is designed to create a holistic mountain experience for Cebu with an outdoor, religious and hospitality component, built with sustainability at its core.

“MagsPeak will be one of the start points of the Camino de Cebu trail favored by pilgrims expressing their religious devotion,” according to an insider. “The MagsPeak to Compostela pilgrim trail is a 42-kilometer route traversing the mountainside of Manunggal Balamban down to the Municipality of Compostela, whose patron, St. James the Apostle, is also a featured saint in the MagsPeak chapel.” The Camino de Cebu is based on the traditional Camino of Spain which is composed of several trails that converge on the city of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.

MagsPeak’s natural setting fuses unique amenities where guests can reconnect with nature and immerse in a spiritual retreat through Camino de Cebu hiking trails, Our Lady of the Pillar Chapel, a Rosary Walk, meditation garden and Way of the Cross.

MagsPeak devotees can further immerse in a spiritual retreat inside the beautiful Our Lady of the Pillar Chapel which overlooks the mountains, or contemplate the 20 stations along the 800 meter long Rosary Walk. They can also quietly meditate on the Pieta in a garden inspired by Michelangelo, or, for the adventurous, do penance by climbing the 14 stations of the Way of the Cross from the entrance to the top of MagsPeak.

Furthermore, MagsPeak offers a unique hospitality experience managed by CLI’s Hospitality arm, CLI Hotels & Resorts. Opening in 2025, the resort comprises 13 exclusive mountain villas and 20 hotel rooms highlighting the views of the Balamban mountain landscape and western Cebu seascape. Guest stays will further enhance their stay with a clubhouse, heated infinity pools, and a farm-to-table restaurant.

Sustainability is integral to its development. MagsPeak will showcase eco-friendly initiatives and outdoor programs, like hiking trails, camping facilities and other child-friendly activities surrounded by nature.

The 21-hectare MagsPeak Mountain Resort and Villas is located in a mountain property in Magsaysay Peak in Balamban, Cebu set to open in 2025. The project is a joint venture between Cebu Landmasters, Inc. and MagsPeak Nature Park Inc. with the hotel managed by CLI Hotels & Resorts.

The development’s master plan will foster environmental conservation and integrates efficient green practices through tree reforestation programs such as planting of thousands of endemic trees prior to construction activities. Furthermore, there will be a solar-powered water retention system. Thus, these will promote a sustainable and responsible development.

Per information provided to us, the mountain resort project joins CLI’s pipeline of hospitality projects now including ten hotels and resorts in Visayas and Mindanao with a total of over 1,700 room keys upon completion.

“MagsPeak will attract more local and foreign ecotourists to the Visayas, where beach properties abound and immersive nature experiences thrive,” Jose Soberano III, CLI Chairman and CEO, enthuses. “We believe MagsPeak will further enhance the variety of tourist attractions in Cebu and the Visayas.  It is our way of strategically anticipating the rebound of tourism in our country and also providing a sanctuary for those seeking spiritual retreat.”
